Slink Feet for the novice

I have a friend who is still wearing the old ugly 2008 style system shoes.  She has a perfectly lovely avatar she just doesn't know how to wear any other kind of shoes.  So I bought a her pair of Slink feet and some shoes to go with.  She is still wearing the ugly old shoes. She told me she still hasn't figured out how to wear the ones I got for her.  So I started googling to see if I could find a nice how to blog for Slink feet. And I found nothing.  Even  went to Slink's official page and there is nothing for the beginner.

I guess I will have to make one for her

http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/fashion-shopping/82177-hands-feet-appliers-slink-yay.html

So you open your feet and you get a folder with all of this:

what next?
well in order to wear the mesh feet you have to wear at least 3 things:

1)the alpha layer - makes your old system feet invisible - there are two alpha layers included, one that is just for the feet and one that is for both the hands and feet combined.  IF you don't have the hands, then it's easy just choose the feet alpha.

2)the system shoe - The system shoe doesn't seem very important but it is used to determine where the ground is.

3)the feet themselves - Then there are the feet themselves and they come in 5 sizes and you should choose the size that best fits your ankle.

so that is what you need to wear.  there are also various huds that do different things

The first one that you need to mess with only once if you only wear one skin or more often if you change your skins frequently is the Slink Omnihud V5 feet

for how to use this I direct you to the official Slink site: This hud will take you through the skin matching process, the nightmare that we all must survive in order to enjoy pretty feet.

then there is the basic nails hud which you use  - to choose your toe nail style and color

and the utility hud that you use whenever you want to wear stockings that come with appliers

Appliers  these are the wonderful aids that other designers make for you so that you can buy their products that work with the slink feet.  there are nail appliers and skin appliers and stocking appliers and the designers have done the hard part for you, all you have to do is wear the applier press a button and take the applier off and your skin will magically match the rest of you with no more effort on your part.

to be continued

My SL Guilty Confessions Meme

'K I think I can do this one....  I have to be one the worst bloggers, not only do I rarely post, I'm rarely read when I do post.  However, I do read a lot of other peoples blogs.  One of the blogs I read is Strawberry Singh's.  She of the amazing photography and the meme's.

Meme instructions: Share 1 to 10 of your top second life guilty confessions. Remember to leave your link in this meme’s post so others can come by and read your answers as well!

1) Her inventory is over 100K again.  Not Mine.  I work hard to keep mine under 50K.  But she's been around longer so who knows?  I wish I could get mine back under 25K so I guess however big inventory may be, one might wish it were more manageable.

Her 2) is not one of mine either.  I actually like to get dressed up in SL and go out and socialize.

Ditto numbers 3) and 4) I wear the things I like over and over and I've never felt a compulsion to buy anything Strawberry.

5) Silent boycotting - yeah, I do that.  My SL is for me to enjoy.  I feel no obligation to put up with anybody's BS.  I ignore that which I don't enjoy.  Is it passive aggressive?  Possibly.

So all that tells you is that I don't have many of SS's guilty thingies.  I do have some of my own.

6) There's the compulsive newbie alt maker thing I do.  I can't tell you how many alts i've made, because I lost track a long time ago.   And I will very likely make more. I like to be a newbie for a day or two.  I create an alt, get them outfitted with decent skin, shape, AO and clothes and then I'm done.  I rarely use the alt again unless I have to be in two places at once like attending a class or say I want to listen to my favorite clubs stream but have to work on my inventory and can't really be there to socialize.

7) Sometimes I will turn off all of my friends ability to see whether I'm online or not. What can I say?  I'm an introvert.  Sometimes I like to be by myself.  In fact I really enjoy my own company.

8) I cam - behind closed doors, up skirts, down blouses, inside dressing rooms....if it can be cammed, I cam it.

9)  I take naughty pictures.  I've never published any though.

10)  I delete all of the landmarks that come with the things I buy, not just the duplicates, all of them.  Unless the landmark is for a friend's place or a club I frequent, I delete all of my landmarks about once a month.  Most places I go to, I get there by looking in my TP history. Otherwise I search for it or I copy the link from an article.

blue

Sigh.....
Don't know why
there's no sun up in the sky.....But I am getting sick and tired of it.  Clinical depression sucks.  Oh, I take meds for it. And they make life bearable.  Most of the time. But sometimes they don't quite cut it.  There are signs.
trouble focusing
trouble reaching out
trouble getting the where withal to bathe
troubled sleep
troubled dreams
irritability
isolation (I think I said that before)
sitting and staring at nothing
desire to self medicate
maybe i need to up my meds
the blues
the blahs
I'm lonely

such a beautiful place but I feel no joy in it....

The newbie

So there was this challenge to make a newbie av. Some blog was having a contest. Make a new av and spend less than $250L. I thought, I can do that. “Easy peasy” as some teacher of mine once said. It's not like I haven't done it before. So I did. Well, let me tell you the new av experience is awful these days. No lessons, just pick a starter av and dive right in. and they give you portal choices like socialize, roleplay, adult.... I forget the rest. I chose a pale blond vampire and chose socialize. I wandered through a room full of other newbies with poseballs for sitting around.

Well, I knew I didn't want to stay there and chat up the newbs so I used search and took off for NCI Kuula. I stopped at their freebie boards and picked a couple of free outfits. Next I went up to a changing room and then goofed around in the library for a bit. Out of nostalgia I tried to adopt the pink polka dotted newbie av. But her glitch pants were missing for some reason.

So I put on the blue jeans and pink top I'd picked up and then thought, I've got to get some good skin and an ao. I remembered that LAP Long Awkward Pose has a decent free ao for newbies under 30 days of age so I searched and tp'd over there to pick it up.

Then I went to Fab Free headquarters. I got the slurl from their website and I'd just stopped in there and noticed that they now have a landmark board just inside the door on the left wall that has a landmark for Savoir Hair. So I grabbed that and then did a quick tour of the fab freebie boards, focusing on skins shapes and grabbed Eolandes basic jewelry set. I remembered that Cupcake had a sweet skin over on the lower right corner, it was still there, so I snatched it up. Speaking of Sn@tch I also grabbed their newbie gift since she is one of my favorite designers in sl. Not only that I wanted the landmark for her store so I could make use of the bargain pit. Tea Lane had a complete starter av right next to the Savoir Hair sign so I took that as well. And I also picked up the landmark for the free dove. Free Dove  is one of the oldest freebie stores still running and a lot of their stuff is way old, but they have some goodies still.

I took my haul and then stopped off at a store that was featured in Fabfree's blog that had a cute striped yellow top for a dollar. Le Lolo was their name and I copied the slurl and headed there. Then I was taken in by the freebie gifts on her counter. They weren't free. They were $10L per bag. So I got a few joke tshirts for $30L. Didn't mean to but that's what being a newb is all about I guess. So it turns out the striped yellow tank was a hunt gift and I had to find a flower petal. Not too hard for a veteran hunter like myself. Then off to Sn@tch's bargain pit. Times are tough and I could tell. The number of freebies down in the pit was reduced to their started av kit. So I took that and split.

I took my loot and went to NCI Fisherman's wharf site to use their changing room. I find it's a lot less crowded there than at Kuula. So I tried on all my stuff and decided it was time to make my own shape.
Not from scratch, oh no. I've done that before but I wanted something quick and dirty. Not too long ago I'd learned about the standard sizing initiative for mesh and I remembered that you could pick up modifiable shapes on the marketplace. A search for standard brought them up and they are still free. So I took the Standard Small shape and saved it with my name 1.0. Then I tweaked it making sure not to change the sliders that need to stay standard. So now I have a custom shape that should be able to fit into mesh clothes without too much trouble.

So – here I am in the cute yellow striped tank, the freebie jeans, Chai Anxiety Hair and cupcake skin.
I'm at Caledone Uxbridge's starter tutorial. It's the best one I've found and I generally recommend it to newbies. They also have some awesome freebies to give out along the path.

Happy New Year!

It's been an interesting couple of days, but it's pretty clear to me that this is not really doing any good.  Thank you all for participating but you'll have to find somewhere else to play.

ruminations on social media

So here's a thought, instead of having a facebook or google+ account for our avatars, we now have the option to write on the walls of our SL friends.  I sort of like this idea.  Sort of, because I really don't care for facebook all that much and wouldn't go near this google+ thing if you paid me.  Google is my search engine, and my blog host, I don't want them trying to share all they know about me to anyone else.

I like my privacy, For me facebook is a constant battle, trying to protect that privacy, while they come up with more ways to get me to share.  If I had known it was going to be like that I don't think I would have ever signed up for it.  I hardly ever post anything there. I do like that it has reconnected me to many old friends I'd lost touch with over the years. And that is the only reason that I don't cancel it. Now that we reconnected, we stay in touch without the facebook wall. Why?  Well mainly because face book is cluttered with everyone I know, and I don't particularly want to share my private life with colleagues from work and other acquaintances.

My second life is much more straight forward.  The friends I've made in SL are my friends,  I enjoy waving to them and this wall seems a perfect medium for that.

Tried making a male shape

I like it - more or less.  depends on what skin it wears.  The Belleza Ashton's not bad.
